Foreign Films US_24_B08MHCT6GG Editorial Review
Sátántangó is a 7-hour long Blu-ray film, directed by Bela Tarr, set in Hungary during the Socialist repression. The slow-paced movie features a bleak and depressing dialog and cinematography with long takes and tracking shots. The film's plot revolves around the life of a desolate farm collective that has economically collapsed under Socialism's productivity strangling oppression, and two of its members Conspiring to abscond with a large cattle payment they've received, believing they can escape to start new lives elsewhere. However, their Conspiracy runs aground when rumors of a charismatic natural leader and former collective member returning begin to spread. There is no happy ending to the movie, just as there never is in Socialism. Despite being a monumental work, some viewers complain about the running time and cinematography.
