The Elgato Thunderbolt 2 dock is a good addition to anyone looking to add bootable USB 3.0 connectivity or a 4k output to their Mac or Thunderbolt-enabled device. However, customers should be aware of the limitations of their devices before purchasing. It is possible to attach only one external monitor via HDMI or Thunderbolt, and the HDMI port only supports 4K at up to 30Hz. The dock is compatible with a SuperDrive, but it cannot power a Thunderbolt 1/2 RAID tower or a multi-SSD reader. The dock is powered by a 12V 5A power source and does not have a standby mode. The dock has an audio input and output, and gigabit ethernet capabilities that have not been tested in the product reviews.
